Avalon is a small, tuition-free public charter school for students in grades 6-12, located in the Saint Anthony Park neighborhood of Saint Paul, Minnesota. At Avalon, our curricular focus is Project-Based Learning, a model which empowers our students to explore their passions while developing the communication, time management and collaborative skills necessary to succeed in the 21st century.

2025-2026 Positions:

  • On Call Substitute teachers ($185 per day / $100 per half day).
  • Special Education Educational Assistant (grades 6-12, 37.5 hours per week)
    • Job Description / Responsibility with Special Education Students  
      • provide job-related support or coaching to students in Avalon's work-based learning program as defined by each student's IEP.
      • Provide academic and behavioral support, as well as supervision, in both group and one-on-one settings as defined by each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and under the direction and supervision of the special education case manager(s) for students receiving special education services.
      • Read all IEPs of students on workload in order to provide academic and behavioral support.
      • Supervise groups of students receiving special education services in a special education case manager’s office or other designated space when necessary.
      • Assist students receiving special education services in learning process through reinforcement of positive behavior, individual instruction, socialization, and good communication.
      • Circulate in the general education classroom to provide behavioral supports where needed for students receiving special education services determined by the special education manager(s) and/or general education teachers.  
      • Help students receiving special education services develop/self-monitor organization skills as determined by the IEP and special education manager(s).
      • Facilitate appropriate social interactions among students receiving special education services, including when they are interacting with general education peers.
      • Monitor student activities, promoting respect, explaining social norms and disciplinary consequences, and de-escalating personal confrontations.
      • Maintain behavior documentation, with written observations and anecdotal information, when necessary.
      • Work with the special education case manager(s) and special education coordinator for initial and on-going trainings and meetings throughout the year.
      • Participate in IEP team meetings by contributing appropriate information, ideas, and assistance as determined by the special education case manager.  
      • Attend all required staff meetings on time.
      • Maintain confidentiality of all information regarding all students.
      • Provide accurate information about a student only to those who have the right to know under the direction of the special education case manager(s) (e.g. team members).
