The following list includes information on each major assessment Avalon School employs, the dates when they occur, the average time required to complete them, and the justification for their use. NWEA MAP Math and Reading - Fall (9/19 to 9/23) and Spring (3/26-3/29): NWEA MAP test is used to measure progress from fall to spring. It is used with all students grades 6 through 10. Students complete both a math and reading test, and each takes appoximately 35 minutes. The NWEA MAP scores are used as part of an authorizer (NEO) goal.
PSAT - Fall (10/12/22): The PSAT is given to all 11th grade students in the fall. It is used as a measure of college-readiness and we report our scores in our Annual Report. The PSAT has three sections (Reading, Writing and Language, and Math) and takes 2 hours and 35 minutes to complete.
ACT plus Writing Test - Spring (3/7/23) It is required for Avalon to offer the ACT to all 11th grade students by the state of Minnesota. The test has five sections (English, Math, Reading, Science, and Writing) and takes 3 hours and 35 minutes.
WIDA - March 9th and March 23rd
MCA Tests - Spring: The MCA tests are required by the state of Minnesota.
4/19-4/21: MCA - Math/Reading - 6, 7, 8th grade
4/24-4/28: MCA - Math (11th) / Reading (10th)
5/1-5/5: MCA - Science (8th / 11th)
