I rock!
Nora is so excited to be back at Avalon School, especially working as an advisor, and back in the Twin Cities! Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Nora started her life as a Minnesotan while at Saint Olaf College in Northfield. After traveling in the Middle East and India, she earned her degree from the Olaf’s Paracollege (much like Avalon’s project-based learning) in Teaching Social History. She spent three years teaching in large suburban districts. When discovering a flyer in the mail titled “What is Your Ideal School?” she decided to make a change. Responding to that mailing led her to the adventure called Avalon and she’s been on that adventure ever since. Along with a handful of daring folks (Gretchen, Carrie and Dean to name a few…), she started Avalon School in the fall of 2001. After four years she took a break to move to New York City to complete her masters at Columbia University. She enjoyed a brief stay back at Avalon in the fall of 2006 before traveling to New Zealand for some hiking and Ireland to “study” international education and politics along with her husband Ben. (Ask to see her photos of doors….)
One can’t mention enough how delighted Nora is about returning to the Twin Cities and specifically Avalon. To avoid the contagious travel bug, she and her husband bought a house in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis and are looking forward to biking the Franklin hill to Saint Paul every morning. She’ll need some help identifying all the native plants in her yard so let her know if you can help!
