As a parent, you want to give your child the knowledge, tools, and skills required to succeed in today’s world. Unfortunately, the traditional model of education is based on a very different work environment. This model no longer adequately prepares children for the future, failing to give them the ability to adapt to the fast-paced world of today.
Our unique approach does more than teach the state requirements for graduation. It prepares students to thrive in the world after graduation and helps them become productive, engaged members of their community.
At Avalon School, our goal is to prepare students to be successful in college, careers, and life. Along with the standard educational building blocks, we teach them invaluable skills, such as time management, goal assessment, project management, and communication. Our students learn how to identify their passions and, more importantly, they learn how to learn.
In addition to these skills, we teach leadership, collaboration, and conflict mediation. Our school is based on a democratic model, where students make the rules and decide how things will run. This gives them the experience of creating their learning environment and empowers them to own their own education.
We also value the individual. We provide a safe, nurturing environment where students are valued for who they are and what they are passionate about. Students learn through creating projects that interest them, incorporating the educational standards required by the state for graduation.
Instead of being taught to take tests, Avalon students learn to research, create, and complete projects that genuinely interest them. This model of learning will ensure the knowledge gained is retained, while giving students experiences to bring forward into the rest their life.
