Donations
AKA: Giving of yourself!
Why give?
1. The constitution of Avalon School which students and parents sign every year includes a commitment to giving time and financial support to the school.
2. We each have unique gifts and talents and need to examine our own lives for ways to effectively contribute to the school, and in that way, to the success of our students and families and the wider community (St. Paul -> Minnesota ->The United States -> The World -> The Universe and beyond!) Note: Never give a Trekkie space for a good advertisement.
3. To help give staff, students, and the community the time and financial resources necessary to fulfill our mission: Avalon School prepares students for college and life in a strong, nurturing community that inspires active learning, engaged citizenship, and hope for the future.
Donated funds generally go toward curriculum, theater fees, sports fees, service week and new technology-all things that definitely fulfill our mission!
So how can I do it?
1. You can give money to Avalon through the annual giving program, via the PayPal link on this site, or by participating in any of the fund-raising activities organized by the school each year (Chili night out, etc).
2. You could support Avalon by giving of your time to address a need at Avalon. There are many needs around a community like Avalon. If you don’t see a need, talk to your student’s advisor, Gretchen, or Holly about opportunities.
For this writing, I have separated “talent” out of the money and time categories for a reason. It is difficult to quantify the value of a person’s hobbies and interests if they don’t put them into a job. And sometimes, the things we can do for Avalon just happen as a part of our day-to-day lives. We may have a talent for networking. We need committed parents that pass along the word about the importance of this or that aspect of the school. Sometimes we need parents to be available – such as the community specialist aspect of the senior projects. This is an attitude – do you have a talent you’d like to share with Avalon? Talk to someone today!
3. Something that parents can do that falls into all of the above categories is to join the Avalon Parents Association (APA). The APA at Avalon serves to meet needs around Avalon and support the environment of the school. The APA organizes and staffs various events throughout the school year.
