The Avalon Parent Association meets on the second Tuesday of each month, 7:30 p.m. in the cafe. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend!
At the first meeting, September 14, we scheduled the following for the next few months:
Tuesday, September 27 - We’ll be tabling at Back to School Night.
Friday, October 14 - Don’t miss Avalon’s 10 Anniversary Block Party. We’ll be there helping out and enjoying the music and memories. (No regular meeting on October 11.)
Tuesday, November 8 – The Whys and Hows of Project-Based Learning. Find out more about both the philosophy and how it gets put into practice at Avalon.
Tuesday, December 13 – Pie and Poetry. 7:00 p.m. (note the earlier time!) Open mic event for parents and students. Bring a favorite dessert and a yummy poem — one that you love, found or composed.
Tuesday, January 10 – Regular meeting. Help get organized Avalon’s Chili Night and Silent Auction.
Tuesday, February 7 – Regular meeting. Help get organized for Avalon’s Chili Night and Silent Auction.
Week of February 27 – Silent Auction preparations. Come help other parents and staff prepare donations for the Silent Auction. This will be one evening early in the week for just a couple of hours, date to be announced as the week draws closer.
Friday, March 2 - Chili Night and Silent Auction! It’s a fun night of community, so we hope you can be a part of it!
Tuesday, March 13 – Teens, Technology and Communication. Come discuss how your family deals with cell phones, texting, computer use or other ways that technology affects family life. We may have a short article to read ahead of time (which will be available here in the month before the meeting).
Tuesday, April 10 - topic to be determined.
Tuesday, May 8 - topic to be determined.
(We hope to schedule a meeting on understanding the state Graduation Standards.)
