In 2008, Takawi graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.I. S. in African & African American Studies, Asian Languages & Literatures, and Dance. Prior to working at Avalon, she has worked with for The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, Minneapolis Community Education, The Division of Indian Work, and The Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women. Her intersecting passions and interests include analyzing pedagogical approaches, self-care, and esteem enhancement through identity discovery, philanthropy, and the arts. On a random Saturday, you might find Takawi watching the sunset at Lake Nokomis, making a vegan and gluten-free meal, mixing essential oils and plant butters to create a homemade salve, or hosting dialogues to share and and work through life's adversities.
